Embark on a captivating journey to Upper Mustang, often referred to as “The Last Forbidden Kingdom” or the former “Kingdom of Lo.” This enchanting destination, situated in the northern part of the Mustang district of Nepal, unfolds a treeless landscape below 5000 meters, offering a unique trekking experience.
At an elevation of 3,840m, Upper Mustang reveals breathtaking views of iconic peaks such as Annapurna, Nilgiri, and Dhaulagiri. Once a prohibited site, it earned the title of “The Last Forbidden Kingdom” until 1992, preserving its unique charm. Immerse yourself in the rich Tibetan culture, language, and history as you explore caves and witness ancient rock paintings.
The trek introduces you to the Lo-Manthang municipality, a northwest area with a profound Buddhist history. Key attractions include Chode Gompa, Choprang Gompa, The Royal Palace, and The Monastic Museum, offering insights into the ancient art of healing.
Considered a moderate-altitude trek, Upper Mustang welcomes trekkers with well-trodden paths, allowing a steady ascent and minimizing altitude-related challenges. Traverse through semi-deserts and marvel at artistic rock formations, encountering the testimonial history of King Lo and significant events dating back to the 8th century.
The best season to explore Upper Mustang is during the monsoon (June to September) due to its location in the rain shadow region of the Himalayas. However, Taktok Brothers are ready to craft a customized trip for you and your group, ensuring an unforgettable experience in the remote valley of Mustang. Contact us for more details and explore a journey into the heart of this mystical kingdom.
