Tilicho Peak Expedition

Towering at the height of 7134m

5 Reviews

Trip Overview

The towering Tilicho Peak stands proudly at an elevation of 7,134m, renowned among climbers for its technical challenge. Access to the Base Camp offers two distinct routes. One commences with a drive to Khudi, followed by a multi-day trek passing through Manang and Khangsar Village, while an alternative approach involves a brief mountain flight from Pokhara to the arid town of Jomsom, initiating the journey from Beni Bazaar to Jomsom.

Continuing eastward and northward from Jomsom, we encounter the daunting Mesokanto Pass, reaching an altitude of 5300m. At this pass, our exploration often reveals marine fossils (shells), serving as evidence that the Himalayas were once submerged beneath the sea. Opting for the former approach allows ample time for acclimatization and streamlines logistical challenges. The panoramic vistas along these paths are awe-inspiring, offering views of the majestic Tilicho Peak and the serene, azure Tilicho Lake—a glacial expanse inhospitable to marine life. The presence of marine fossils found here further supports the historical notion of the Himalayas having been submerged in the ancient sea.
