Mountain Trails of Nepal

Trip Overview

Explore the majestic Mt. Manaslu, the eighth-highest peak globally, standing tall at 8,163m (26,781 ft) above sea level. Nestled in the Mansiri Himal ridges within Nepal’s Gorkha District, this peak, also known as “mountain of the spirit,” is referred to as Mt. Kutung in Tibet. The Manaslu Base Camp trek takes you on an exhilarating journey, featuring a visit to the three peaks of Manaslu, famously called the “Japanese Peak.”

Considered a challenging trek in the Manaslu Region, Mt. Manaslu is renowned for trekking, hiking, and expedition enthusiasts, offering an adventurous and rewarding experience. Despite being well-loved, this trekking area remains less explored, adding an element of exclusivity to your adventure.

Commencing from Sotikhola Bazar and concluding at Budhi Gandaki, the trek traverses steep valleys, leading to the contrasting world of Sama, reaching the Manaslu Base Camp at 4800m. The return journey follows the same route back to Sama, with an option to complete a circuit to Marsyangdi Khola after conquering the challenging Larke La pass at 5160m.

The name “Manaslu,” meaning the “mountain of the soul,” adds to the allure of this region, dominating the historical kingdom of Gorkha. The conical-shaped snow-capped peak, locally known as Pungen Ri, stands as a symbol of worship in the Gompa situated a few hundred meters above Sama Goan village.

Embark on the Manaslu Base Camp trek to immerse yourself in rich culture, adventure, breathtaking scenery, and the simple rural lifestyle representing the ancient Tibetan way of life. With the newly opened route, this trek encircling the entire Manaslu massif provides a comprehensive exploration of Nepal’s natural and cultural diversity.
