Island Peak, locally known as Imja Tse, stands as one of the most sought-after peaks among those exceeding 6000 meters in altitude. Its distinctive shape earned it the name “Island Peak” from members of the British Expedition, likening it to an island amidst a sea of snow and ice when viewed from Dingboche. This captivating peak attracts the attention of every mountaineer passing through the Everest Region.
The inaugural ascent of Island Peak was accomplished by Tenzing Norgay, Charles Wylie, Charles Evans, and Alf Gregory in 1953. Since then, numerous successful ascents have been made to Imja Tse. Island Peak holds significance for aspiring climbers, offering a relatively easier climb compared to 7000-meter peaks while still providing immense satisfaction and a sense of achievement upon reaching the summit.
Ideal for those with some high-altitude experience seeking to expand their Himalayan horizons, Island Peak demands endurance as climbers navigate crevasses and sections of snow and ice. It serves as an excellent opportunity to acquire mountaineering skills and prepare for the challenges of 7000 and 8000-meter peaks.
The trekking route to Island Peak aligns with the Everest Expedition until Dingboche. From there, Island Peak climbers head towards Chhukung, diverging from the route taken by Everest, Lhotse, and other peak climbers who proceed to Lobuche en route to Everest Base Camp. The trail is enchanting and unique, with majestic mountain vistas and the invigorating snow breeze, providing the ultimate Himalayan experience. The beauty of flora and fauna in the Sagarmatha National Park along the route adds to the mesmerizing journey.
The best seasons to climb Island Peak/Imja Tse are Autumn and Spring, spanning September to November and March to May. These seasons offer favorable climbing conditions with clear and undistorted routes, providing unobstructed views and showcasing the true beauty of nature.

Trekking and mountain climbing in the Everest Region are highly dependent on weather conditions. We strive to schedule our trips at the most favorable time, but in case of extreme scenarios, domestic flights to Lukla may experience delays or cancellations. In such cases, please note that expenses for additional days, except for the total number of days in the itinerary section, will be borne by the client. Taktok Brothers will, however, make necessary arrangements for the accommodation of porters and guides. If you wish to make alternative arrangements, such as a helicopter flight to avoid delays, we can arrange it at a nominal extra charge.
Additionally, Taktok Brothers will not be liable for any compensation for losses due to missed international flights. However, we will assist in making necessary arrangements to minimize your loss. To avoid missing flights, we recommend maintaining flexible time frames before trip departure and after trip departure.
Please be informed that, as we will be traveling in remote areas with extreme climatic conditions and challenging geography where trails can be distorted at times, we might need to adjust our itineraries as required. However, we assure you that the quality of service will not be compromised at any cost.
Handy Info:
Climbers are advised to prepare and train their bodies and minds to adapt to the remoteness, high altitude, and distance from their families. It is also recommended to carry fewer valuable belongings. Pack some cotton clothes for your stay in Kathmandu and warm ones for the Himalayas. Always keep a copy of your passport and photos with you.
Expedition costs vary based on factors such as group size, royalty and permit costs in different seasons, category of hotel accommodation, numbers of Sherpas allocated, and equipment. The type of arrangement and package customization also contribute to the overall cost. We prefer discussing these details with our clients before offering a specific cost. Feel free to contact Taktok Brothers for any information about your selected package.
