Embark on an unforgettable journey with Taktok Brothers to conquer the majestic Mt. Cho Oyu, standing proudly at 8,188 meters. Known as “the Turquoise Goddess” in the local Tibetan language, Cho Oyu offers a classic challenge among the 14 peaks above 8,000 meters. Nestled at the border of Nepal and China, it is the westernmost peak in the Khumbu sub-section of the Mahalangur Range.
Historical Ascent: The first attempt to summit Cho Oyu was made in 1952 by Edmund Hillary, Tom Bourdillon, and George Lowe. However, technical difficulties and the risk of avalanches forced a retreat. In 1954, Cho Oyu witnessed its first successful ascent via the North-West Ridge by Herbert Tichy, Joseph Jöchler, and Pasang Dawa Lama in an Austrian Expedition. Since then, numerous expeditions have achieved remarkable success on Cho Oyu, establishing it as the second most climbed peak.
A Peak Above 8,000m: Cho Oyu provides an ideal opportunity to experience the thin air above 8,000 meters. Despite being one of the easier ascents among the 8,000-meter peaks, the climb is strenuous and challenging. Adequate acclimatization is crucial, and Taktok Brothers ensures ample time in the base camp and upper camps for proper adjustment before the summit push.
Borderland Beauty: Situated on the border of Nepal and China, Cho Oyu offers breathtaking views and a unique cultural blend. The expedition not only promises a challenging climb but also an immersive experience in the stunning landscapes of the Khumbu sub-section.
Upon your arrival at the airport, you'll need to obtain your Nepal Entry Visa at the counter. Following these procedures, one of our friendly representatives will be there to meet and greet you and transfer you to a comfortable 3-star hotel for your rest. Feel free to explore the bustling area of Thamel in the evening.
On the second day, we'll assist you in completing all the necessary paperwork and obtaining the required permits. Meanwhile, you can take some time to shop for any personal items you might need during your upcoming journey.
Our adventure begins early in the morning after a hearty breakfast at the hotel. We'll embark on a drive to Timure, a picturesque village located in the Gosaikunda Rural Municipality. While the journey may be a bit tiring due to bumpy roads, the natural beauty that surrounds you will quickly turn your discomfort into tranquility and peace.
After spending a night in Timure, we'll continue our journey to Kerung. Kerung is a village situated in the Solukhumbu District and serves as a significant trading route between Nepal and China. The road leading to Kerung is equally adventurous, adding to the thrill of your expedition.
Moving on from Kerung, we'll cross the border into Tibet, an autonomous region of China. The drive will take us uphill, leading us to Tingri. Tingri is a charming old settlement in Tibet, which used to be a crucial trading hub between farmers in Nepal and Tibet. The lush meadows, pristine rivers, and picturesque villages in Tingri make it a delightful place to pause and acclimatize.
From Tingri, we'll journey to the Chinese Base Camp for Cho Oyu and spend two more days for acclimatization. Since we will rapidly gain altitude while driving instead of trekking, it's vital to allocate sufficient time for acclimatization to avoid altitude-related issues.
While we will drive to the Chinese Base Camp, we'll begin trekking towards the Intermediate Camp after two additional days of acclimatization. Yaks and porters will be responsible for carrying our gear. We will establish our intermediate camp at an elevation of 5400 meters, providing you with full board tent service.
Following the intermediate camp, we'll ascend to the Advanced Base Camp, strategically set up at an altitude of 5700 meters. Here, we will organize our gear and equipment required for our Cho Oyu summit expedition.
The subsequent three and a half weeks are dedicated to the climbing period of Cho Oyu. During this phase, we adhere to a carefully planned acclimatization schedule that combines climbing with rest days. To reach the summit, we will establish three higher camps on the upper slopes of the mountain above the base camp.
With the exhilaration of your triumph, we'll retrace our path, trekking back to the Intermediate Base Camp.
After departing from the Intermediate Base Camp, we will take a drive back to Tingri, the charming old settlement in Tibet.
Following the same adventurous route, we will drive back to Kerung, situated at the border of Nepal and China, where we'll spend the night.
We'll embark on a return journey to Kathmandu, navigating the same rugged and rocky path we took earlier. Upon arrival, you can relax in the comfort of your hotel.
Kathmandu is a beautiful city filled with numerous attractions and cultural heritage sites. Many of these sites are included in the World Heritage List. You can explore locations such as Bhaktapur, Patan, Bouddhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath, and Pashupatinath Temple. Alternatively, you can wander through the bustling streets of Thamel, indulging in exotic cuisines. Furthermore, Kathmandu offers a variety of beautiful souvenirs that you can take back home for your loved ones.
If you haven't made arrangements for any additional adventure packages in Nepal, it's time to bid farewell. One of our courteous representatives will accompany you to the airport, ensuring you arrive with ample time, three hours before your scheduled departure. Have a safe journey!
