Trip Overview

Embark on a thrilling adventure with Taktok Brothers as we present an expedition to two remarkable peaks in the heart of the Himalayas: Ama Dablam and Island Peak.

Ama Dablam: The Matterhorn of the Himalaya

Ama Dablam, renowned as the “Matterhorn of the Himalaya,” stands as one of the world’s most stunning mountains in the Eastern Nepal Himalayan range. With its distinctive pyramid shape, Ama Dablam is characterized by a hanging glacier on its southwest face, resembling the sacred ornament box used by Sherpa women, known as Dablam. At 6,812 meters above sea level, the peak may not be the tallest, but its aesthetic appeal is unparalleled. Situated in the Khumbu region south of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam offers splendid views during the ascent to its pinnacle.

The customary ascent to Ama Dablam follows the Southwestern ridge, the same route taken by the pioneers who reached the summit in 1961. Climbers establish three camps just below and to the right of the hanging glacier, facing the challenge of technical terrain in the narrow granite ridges from camp 1 to camp 2. The adventure intensifies from camp 2 to camp 3, with some risk of glacier falls. Ama Dablam demands rock and ice climbing skills, requiring climbers to acclimate to high altitudes. For those with previous climbing experience seeking an extraordinary mountain expedition, the Ama Dablam Expedition is an ideal choice.

Island Peak: Imja Tse

Rising modestly at 6,189 meters, Imja Tse, popularly known as Island Peak, earned its name from English mountaineer Eric Shipton in 1953. Viewed from Dingboche, it resembled an island in a sea of ice. Later, in 1983, it was renamed Imja Tse. Offering a blend of challenge and accessibility, Island Peak is an attractive choice for climbers, including beginners with competitive endurance. Often combined with the Everest Base Camp Trek, this peak welcomes numerous climbing groups each year, making it a popular destination.
